Get Mom in the picture!

Get Mom in the picture!

I just came back from a family vacation to Mexico. It was blissful! Except for the whining that seems to follow my husband and I, no matter what country we're in. It seems that whining noise never stops coming out of my 7-year-old. Can you relate? God, I hope so!

Anyway, I digress...

If you're a mom, I'm going to stereotypically assume that you are also the photographer of your family, as I am. You probably take all the family photos, make sure we get pictures of each major event and landmark visited, videos of the family having fun on vacation and then, if you're really on the ball, you might compile them into a reel, collage or even a photo book! That's my ultimate goal, although I've been working on creating a photo book of each year and I only just finished 2018! Time flies, man.

But what I notice when I do that is... I'm not in many of these photos! To be honest, I don't love having my picture taken much anymore. But when I look back at some of our vacation photos, I'm only in a handful of them; it looks like I wasn't even there! This time around, I told me husband, Jeremy, to take photos of me. He used to be a videographer, so he's actually decent at taking the photos, he just doesn't think about it. Or, maybe it's because I'm the unofficial photographer and make sure everything is captured (except anything that I do).

Jeremy was good about it! He did take some videos and photos of me and the kids. Even the kids started taking photos of me! I don't love them, but we have them now and it looks like I too went on the family vacation.

My advice to parents is: make sure Mom is in the pictures too! Even if she doesn't like how she looks (I can relate), take them anyway. Document your family life with ALL family members! You'll never regret having the photo or the video. It's so nice to look back and even watch videos of people talking, laughing, having fun, capturing a moment.

If you're not the photographer of the family, snap a few candids, you'll never regret doing it later but you will regret it if you don't.

Who's the photographer in your family? Let me know in the comments or send a message or voice note!

We do have a bunch of photos with me in them from this trip, although I don't make a habit of sharing photos of my kids. So, here's a few pics that my kids and I took of me in Mexico. I don't love these... but we have them!
